If you have been following the blog here you would have noticed that I mentioned that the N900 would ship with Skype built-in and now I have got more evidence to back up my claim. Who is the source? The folks from Skype themselves. Sit back and enjoy the 2 min tour below for more info on skype integration within the N900 and yeah overlook that last part where Mark says you can buy a N900 off the shelf, not yet guys!

Embedding not working for God knows what reason. Check the demo video at Skype’s official website here

Thats right, Skype support out of the box, no installing apps or anything! Beat that iPhone or Droid or whatever smartphone you wanna put against it!

Now that N900 has started shipping, I thought it was time to start scouting the web for N900 apps, so that I know exactly what to do when my device arrives at my doorstep (which am hoping is pretty soon!)

From my previous experiences with a Nokia device, I headed straight to the ovi store (the mecca of apps for Nokia devices) to see if I can find any apps for the N900 but to my utter disappointment the Maemo version of the store is not yet live, so there goes the best source for apps. Then, I turned to the omniscient, the GOOGLE and guess what I discovered? Just the apps I was looking for! Details and short video after the break.

Well, Google directed me to this latest YouTube clip by Nokia Conversations team, which makes a mockery of getting apps on N900.

Since I still don’t have an N900 at my access, I explored other suggestions from the omniscient and let me list my top 3 apps, which I will install on my N900, the moment I unbox it.

Skype

This is one app, probably every N900 should ship in pre-installed. If not, no worries, I know exactly where to dig it from. With Maemo 5 integrating seamlessly the skype application within their OS, this is probably the dream of every netizen who has ever used skype to make long distance calls. Further the promise of skype calls over both 3G and Wi-Fi , makes this the top app in my must have list for the N900.

For more info on skype for N900, head over to this link.

Qik

If you have a decent camera phone, the chances are you would have probably heard of this amazing video sharing client, Qik. The award winning app is so user-friendly that it makes live video streaming from your camera equipped mobiles a no-brainer. Not surprisingly, I have no qualms in including this in my must have list and I should add, that the second and third positions were rather too close to draw a line.

Free Download link for Qik for N900

PixelPipe for N900

This is one application I cannot imagine my life without! The service which was launched early this year has become an integral part of my online lifestyle. The media gateway app lets you upload media (audio, video and images) to 100+ social networks, photo/video sites, blogs, and other online services. That doesn’t end there, with Pixelpipe one can publish text, photos, videos, and audio directly to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, MySpace, and tons of other networking services. So now you know why I cannot live without it and naturally it figures in my must have list.

Free Download link for Pixelpipe for N900

P.S- You can find an amazing collection of apps for N900 over at MaemoSelect. So start shortlisting the apps you wanna install on your N900s!
